It's been a long time coming to say the least. It was November 2019 when Rob talked with 4th West Apartment's about putting his new shop at their location. It was scheduled to open at the end of March 2020. Rob sold his current business at the time in Payson, Utah called Cut & Scratch, an all in one Barber Shop, Record Shop, Coffee Shop, to his friend Micheal Greenwood who turned it into The 5 Cent Barber Shop, and was ready to open Memento Mori in Downtown Salt Lake City. Unfortunately delay after delay with construction effected the opening date for over two years. Fenn didn't know if it was ever going to be done.
Construction finally finished in March of 2022. The all in one Barber Shop, Record Shop, Art Gallery was finally ready to become a reality, and a few busy months of planning, licensing, building, and hiring staff was on its way. On July 12th, 2022 Remember Death, Inc. (Memento Mori) opened its doors to the public with the Barber Shop part of the business. Offering traditional barber services in a not so traditional shop. The barber shop had over 50 new clients within the first couple of weeks of being open, and is on track to service over 150 per week in the near future. The Record Shop and Art Gallery is scheduled to open up the first week of October 2022. Fenn describes Memento Mori as a place where Johnny Cash would grab a haircut, Elton John would grab the latest vinyl record release, and Charles Bukowski and Edgar Alan Poe would tell stories while sipping a bourbon.
