Spent a good chunk of the day going through the photos from the last week with The Pretty Reckless. My favorite part of photography is how a good photo can be so timeless.
Had a great conversation with my mom tonight on the phone. Wish I could of celebrated Mother's Day in person, but I'll take what I can get. Anything decent and kind about me came from her and my grandmothers.
Due to Brent from Shinedown coming down with bronchitis, our show in Knoxville, TN had to be canceled so I ended up back in Nashville long enough to grab a shower and jump on a plane back to Utah. Feels good to be back home with Snow White and the babies sippin on a bourbon, however I am already missing the road and excited to do it again soon with The Pretty Reckless.
The Pretty Reckless got a proper sound check today in Greenville, NC and I was able to capture a bunch of shots from it. Filmed some of the show tonight to test out the video capabilities of the Leica. It did not disappoint. I'll be shooting my next film series with Leica SL2-S for sure. The band was great on stage tonight, and after the show grabbed some cool candid photos backstage in the dressing room. Great shooting day, feels good to be back in the groove.
Day off in Nashville was great. Took advantage of indoor plumbing and took a proper shower at my hotel. Hit up a liquor store and grabbed a bottle of Michter's Bourbon. I got to hang out with our good friend Jules from Los Angeles and discovered a great vegan restaurant called AVO in oneCITY. It's a shipping container, but you walk in and it's a whole new world. Great food, will differently hit it up again. Now on the tour bus relaxing ready to hit the road for South Carolina.
Taylor and the boys are on fire. Their live show is the best I've ever seen. So thankful to be able to capture this experience on the road. Before the show I snuck off to the district to check out some of my favorite spots. Unfortunately Nashville is no longer Nashville as I remember it. Tootsies just looks like a fucking purple building, the atmosphere at Nudies was no longer that cool live music vibe, and Ernest Tubb's Record store closed today after being open for 75 years. I'm starting to see why Sturgil Simpson, Merle Haggard, and many more are say FUCK OF NASHVILLE! I guess I'm just getting old and bitter.
I'm back on tour and it's feels so good to be back. I jumped on a plane with my Leica at 6 am to Greensboro, NC to join The Pretty Reckless. The best part of today was seeing them hit the stage and kicking off the show with Soundgarden's "Loud Love", what a fucking punch in the face it was. Now I'm in my bunk off to Nashville. Fun fact, the arena we played tonight is the biggest indoor arena in the US. I always thought Madison Square Garden was.
Billy Bob Thornton and JD from The Boxmasters came out to the ranch today. It was great to hang out with the babies, talk music and drink beer. I was stoked Snow White finally got to meet them. Amazing humans.
Normal ranch shit today. Ended the day with a bourbon and putting together a final budget for an upcoming film project.
Woke up to the news that grandma Rose had passed away early this morning. I realize she was 99 and had lived an amazing life, but I always felt she'd out live us all.
